Three B.C. Three B.C. races too close for comfort

Three very close races remained in B.C. These races were too close to call, and will depend on mail ballots and possibly recounts.

Only 230 votes separated Liberal candidate Taleeb Mohamed from the NDP’s Anjali Apadurai in the battleground riding Vancouver-Granville. This riding was formerly held by Liberal-turned-Independent Jody Wilson-Raybould, who had decided not to run for re-election.

Nanaimo–Ladysmith’s incumbent Green Paul Manly has lost. This leaves the NDP’s Lisa Marie Barron, Conservative Tamara Kronis, and NDP’s Tamara Kronis to fight it out. Barron had 989 votes more than Kronis at the last count.

In Richmond Centre, Liberal Wilson Miao won 691 votes over Conservative Alice Wong. She had been representing a Richmond riding since 2008.

  • Each riding has more than 99% of polls reporting.
  • These ridings may be influenced by mail-in ballots.

Nanaimo–Ladysmith, Vancouver Centre are two of the most popular ridings in Canada. Voters asked for mail-in ballots in 10 ridings. 8,812 voting kit were distributed in Vancouver Island riding. In Vancouver, 8,806 voting kit was mailed to voters.

More than 1.2 Million mail-in ballots have been issued across Canada. Around 81% of the ballots were returned to Elections Canada by the deadline. However, that number could increase if special ballots  are dropped off in person on election day or those not processed yet are counted.
